You don’t get a better look into the universe. The Chinchado in Northern Chile, 2,400 metres above
sea level, hosts the first European Southern Observatory. The nights are dark, the air is dry, clouds rarely obscure the skies. And if they do, the astronomers can have look at their earthly surroundings – another wonder to behold.

Nirgendwo hat man einen besseren Blick ins Weltall. Auf dem Chinchado in Nordchile, 2400 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel, steht La Silla, die erste Europäische Südsternwarte.
